The Lighthouse

This mixed-use district was part of a proposed master plan for the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum site, then home to the NHL's New York Islanders. The plan envisioned a downtown complex featuring a landmark 50-storey hotel and residential tower at the development's center. The proposed tower would have included a restaurant and banquet hall on the top floor offering views from Montauk to Manhattan. Plans called for an athletic complex attached to the coliseum, containing four NHL-sized rinks, a fitness club, and basketball courts. The 77-acre site's master plan incorporated infrastructure for potential future development of a conference center, sport technology offices connected to the coliseum and athletic center, residential towers, retail and commercial space, parking structures and roads to support the development.
